Fundraising for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
By Christophe
TAS Architects’ Lizzie is running the Hackney Half on 26th September to fund-raise for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Only research can stop cancer and we have in mind Angus, the young son of a friend of TAS Architects who has a rare and devastating form of leukemia. Please visit our JustGiving page to support our cause if you can.
In 2019, Angus, the son of a good friend of TAS Architects, was diagnosed with an aggressive blood cancer, T- cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T-ALL). He is one of under 100 children in the UK each year who receive this devastating diagnosis. Despite chemotherapy starting immediately, for a while Angus counted as a “slow-responder”. Thankfully Angus and his family turned a corner and started the journey towards a much more positive prognosis. In total, the planned chemo treatment will take 3.5 years, a brutal regime for such a young boy.
Something good must come of this life changing experience. No child should have to endure this and over the last few decades, research is having a real impact on outcomes. For every child who achieves remission from cancer, typically 66 years of life are gained. Yet because the numbers affected are far fewer than in adulthood, childhood cancer research receives vastly less funding from the major charities.
Angus’s family is working with The Giant Pledge to help beat childhood cancer, which Lizzie and the whole of TAS Architects wants to support. Every penny raised goes to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the UK’s largest drug development centre for children and young people with cancer, helping children both nationally and internationally.
