This is a win we’re particularly proud of: Long Barn has won a RIBA East Award 2026! We’re still enjoying the excitement of being announced the regional winner, and are proud of the judges comments.

Julian de Metz, East Jury Chair, said of TAS Architects’ design:

“The result is a carefully crafted, low-impact dwelling that demonstrates how thoughtful contemporary design can sit comfortably within a sensitive historic and landscape setting.”

In this article in the RIBA Journal, Julian explained the rationale of the design. Our clients’ goal was to create a home that allows them to “continue caring for the landscape they have nurtured for decades, and to remain part of the local village community.”

The judges for the RIBA East Award admired how TAS Architects used a physical model of the proposal when collaborating with planning officers. It demonstrated how the mature landscape would be retained and how the new dwelling would sit discreetly within the site.

“The jury particularly commended the careful placement of the new house within its sensitive context, noting how it respects the mature trees and responds to the significance and setting of the historic building while creating a discreet, low-impact, contemporary architectural intervention.”
