Long Barn has won a Build It Award for its timber frame

By Paul

We’re delighted to announce that our project Long Barn has won the award for Best Timber Frame Home at the Build It Awards 2024. The frame was manufactured by Timber Innovations, who we have worked with on several projects.

There are many benefits to designing a home with a timber frame. One of the key considerations is that the frame can be manufactured off-site, which reduces time on site and wastage. It also adds certainty to the project timescale and budget.

In this project, we worked to standards created by the Association for Environment Conscious Building, aiming to create the lowest carbon building possible. This includes selecting the most sustainable materials possible and reducing thermal bridging, which a timber frame is ideal for.

A timber frame was not only the sustainable choice for Long Barn, but worked with its unique setting. The site for the new home lies in the curtilage of a Grade II listed Lutyens building, in the heart of an emerging Green Belt extension. The surrounding woodlands are ecologically sensitive, while the mature garden provides a variety of habitats.

During the awards process, the Build It judges looked at overall design, efficiency, innovation, how the building system enhanced this project and how the owners’ needs have been addressed. Our clients are very happy in their beautiful new home and we are proud the judges selected Long Barn for this award.
