Set on a leafy street in a Conservation Area in West London, this townhouse had been unoccupied and derelict for several years. The house was previously set over four floors, with a rear extension leading out to a stepped rear garden. After a detailed planning process involving close liaison with Westminster Council, the house has been fully renovated and extended by Hillgrove Projects to form a beautiful family home.
As part of the works, the existing lower ground floor and rear garden have been excavated to a single level, and the extension has been replaced with a new insulated addition with part living green roof and part glazed roof. New glazed doors lead from the open plan kitchen/dining/living area to the brick paved garden, with planting scheme by Jeremy Rye.
Throughout the house, historic features such as sash windows, shutters, and fireplaces have been restored, and the front elevation has been restored to its former glory including decorative metalwork and stucco plasterwork. The previously dilapidated staircase has been replaced with a new bespoke stair, designed by us and fabricated & installed by Vonka. At the top, a slate mansard roof has been added to provide a guest bedroom with en-suite. The result is a bright, welcoming home ideally suited for modern living and enriched by the historic character of the original building.
