This subterranean project added a series of fantastic new spaces to an Edwardian home in Wimbledon. By excavating the existing basement, a new habitable floor was created that provides greater flexibility of use and brings light deep into the basement rooms. A cantilevered staircase connects the two levels, leading down into a sunken courtyard.
A whole refurbishment of the existing house complements the work to the rear, which remapped access to the loft. New thermally efficient glazing replaces old windows to provide glimpses of the mature trees and landscaped garden.
