A project of two halves, this Balham home was originally remodelled and added to at ground floor level. A side infill extension and internal alterations created an open plan kitchen & dining area with doors out to the rear garden. Three years later, the new owners asked us to help them add a loft conversion and roof extension. The latest works added a new bedroom, bathroom and dressing area at the top of the house.
In the new bedroom, bespoke oak joinery makes the most of the tricky space and includes the bed, which is constructed over a step in the floor level (the floor structure was retained to avoid disturbing the ceiling and original features in the master bedroom below). The oak joinery is carried through to the storage cupboard on the landing to tie the new areas together.
